Akoma Ntoaso: Improving Mental Health for children and adolescents with chronic disease in Ghana

Adolescents with chronic illnesses in Ghana face mental health risks exacerbated by fragmented resources, limited collaboration between traditional and Western practices, and stigma. BCH clinicians, in partnership with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), aim to integrate mental and chronic health care services.

Thriving Child Tigray

To address the unseen impacts of armed conflicts on children, a team of child protection workers, social workers, nurses, and sociologists, evaluate mental health and psychosocial support needs to explore how factors such as health and hygiene, food and nutrition, and education impact mental health in Tigray, Ethiopia.

Training Pediatricians in Liberia

GHP has been pivotal in post-war Liberia, establishing the first pediatric residency program and training 32 pediatricians locally for the first time in the country's history. Work now focuses on expanding pediatric specialty care, improving newborn care, and supporting ongoing research and training across Liberia and West Africa.

Improving Pediatric Neurology Care in Zambia

Since 2014, Dr. Archana Patel has partnered with Zambian colleagues to significantly advance pediatric neurology care by enhancing training, supporting research, and strengthening community programs to address critical treatment gaps for children with epilepsy.

Improving Emergency Care in Bihar, India

BEPREPARED is a partnership with CARE-India and the Bihar State Ministry of Health to assess, design, implement and evaluate emergency care systems improvements. A multimodal intervention including equipment investment, renovation, just in time teaching and shoulder to shoulder mentorship emergency care was strengthened at five District Hospitals in Bihar State, India serving over 15 million people.

Enhancing Neurosurgical Care in Antigua and Barbuda

Due to severe neurosurgical care shortages in the Caribbean, Carly Campbell traveled to Antigua and Barbuda as part of her Global Nursing Fellowship to assist a team of surgeons in performing neurological surgeries, assess local needs, and develop strategies for sustainable improvements in care and education.

Strengthening Pediatric Surgical Capacity in Ukraine

By securing specialized surgical equipment, we supported Dnipro Children’s Hospital in expanding its surgical capacity and providing critical care to thousands of children affected by war-related injuries.

From 2020-2024, a specialized pediatric oncology curriculum developed by Ghanaian stakeholders and international partners was taught by Colleen Nixon and Kim Shephard to 29 nurses from 6 hospitals throughout Ghana.

Global Training for Hydrocephalus Care: Reducing Shunt Dependence Through Innovation

Nearly half a million babies, mostly in low- and middle-income countries, are affected by hydrocephalus each year; in partnership with GHP, NeuroKids is addressing this by training global surgeons in ETV/CPC, a minimally invasive alternative to shunt-dependence.
