Mental Health Training for Frontline workers in Ukraine

As the war in Ukraine continues, the mental health needs of children in de-occupied areas are vastly under recognized and under addressed. BCH is partnering with a Ukrainian NGO called Community Self-Help to train front line protection workers and first responders on mental health and psychosocial skills to support children and families in newly de-occupied areas.

Using Hand Hygiene to Decrease Healthcare-Associated Infections

As a resident in the Boston Combined Residency Program, Jeffrey Campbell MD, MPH worked with the organization HAIVN to study hand hygiene improvement tools at the Vietnam National Children's Hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam. This unique tool engaged families to remind and encourage healthcare workers to perform hand hygiene, significantly increasing hand hygiene rates.

Predicting and Preventing Post-Discharge Mortality Among Children in Sub-Saharan Africa

Former fellow Dr. Chris A. Rees and his collaborators worked on developing and validating clinical prediction rules to identify children at risk of death or readmission after hospital discharge in sub-Saharan Africa, conducting studies in Liberia and Tanzania to improve post-discharge care.

Supporting Quality Healthcare in Uzbekistan

BCH GHP has partnered with Bukhara State Medical Institute in Uzbekistan to enhance pediatric hospital care. Our multi-disciplinary team of physicians and nurses visited Bukhara to collaborate on a self study working towards achieving international hospital accreditation.

Advancing Sickle Cell Care in Uganda

In 2021, Dr. Kara Montbleau, along with a team of collaborators from BCH and Bwera Hospital, designed a study to improve diagnostic capacity and outpatient services for children living with sickle cell disease. Teach Teens to Fish: Empowering Liberian Youth

Teach Teens to Fish has partnered with GHP since 2022 with the goal of engaging with teens to help them realize their talents and potentials and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Through workshops and income-generating activities, such as making soap, teenagers in Liberia are provided practical skills to improve their livelihoods, participate in school health clubs, and advance their education.

Sickle Cell Disease Research in Tanzania

In 2023, Dr. Jeffrey Edwards, a global health pathway resident, joined long time partner Muhimbili National Hospital and Muhimbili University in Dar es Salaam to support clinical education and research initiatives supporting analyses of clinical trials, case reports, and investigating the role of vitamin D in sickle cell disease.

Epidemiology & Biostatistics in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

In early 2020, Dr. Mohsin Ali joined our collaborators in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he taught epidemiology and biostatistics to pediatric residents and gained clinical experience working with partners at Muhimbili University and Muhimbili National Hospital.
