Hearts and Minds of Ghana

The Boston Children's Hospital (BCH) cardiac initiative, "Hearts and Minds of Ghana" established a partnership with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, Ghana, with the goal of enhancing pediatric cardiac care in West Africa. The initiative achieved a major milestone by performing the first pediatric open-heart surgery in the region in 2008. Since then, the collaboration facilitated over 120 cardiac surgeries and conducted more than 1,000 consultations. Subsequent work areas focused on enhancing the program's impact by providing additional equipment and training for KATH's medical and nursing staff.
