Acute Care & Mortality Reduction

Acute Care & Mortality Reduction

5 million preventable infant & child deaths a year

Reducing preventable morbidity and mortality in children is a global priority. At the Margaret C. Ryan Global Health Program, pediatric physicians, nurses and other professional staff with expertise in pediatric emergency care, intensive care, hospital care and infectious diseases work with partners around the world to strengthen the delivery of high-quality, timely acute and critical care and advance evidence-based practices that improve outcomes for children. Through clinical expertise, training, health systems strengthening, and collaborative partnerships, we support the adoption and adaptation of effective interventions that address the leading causes of preventable childhood illness and death. Our work aims to build sustainable capacity and strengthen systems so that children everywhere have a better chance of receiving the right care, at the right time, in order to  survive and thrive after their acute illness.

Mission

To partner with Ministries of Health, emergency medicine departments, and clinical teams to strengthen pediatric acute care and reduce preventable childhood morbidity and mortality. Through locally driven partnerships, the Acute Care and Mortality Reduction team builds clinical, educational, and research capacity and supports the delivery of evidence-based care across high-impact areas of pediatric emergency and critical care.
