Teach Teens to Fish: Empowering Liberian Youth
Teach Teens to Fish (TeTOF) is a non-for-profit organization that was established in 2019 for the purpose of working with teens to teach and support healthy living behaviors and to create a safe space for learning to help them realize their potential. Through workshops and income-generating activities, such as making soap, cooking, and arts, teenagers in Liberia are provided practical skills to improve their livelihoods, participate in school health clubs, and advance their education. During COVID-19, TeToF joined the Bomi County Health team task force to help support public health initiatives. These activities included preparation and distribution of 2500 face masks and provision of infection prevention and control supplies to the county health team for distribution at the clinics.
When instructional activities resumed, TeToF distributed IPC items at schools as well and resumed previous in-person support activities for adolescents. As the program continues, young women who have graduated from the program have started their own businesses and reported staying in school as a result of the support from the TeToF community.
