Pediatric Cardiothoracic Care in Sri Lanka

Dr. Christopher Baird partnered with Dr. Kanchana Singappuli, a Sri Lankan cardiothoracic surgeon, to support the training of the the four pediatric cardiac surgeons in a country with 2.9 million children. Dr. Singappuli and colleagues requested training on how to operate on children who have Ebstein's anomaly, a rare congenital heart defect (CHD) that affects the tricuspid valve. Dr. Singappuli and his team perform about 800 surgeries a year at Lady Ridgeway Hospital, among one of the most advanced hospitals in South Asia.
