Advancing Sickle Cell Care in Uganda

In 2021, Dr. Montbleau's work focused on addressing the high burden of sickle cell disease among children in Uganda's Kasese district. In Uganda, sickle cell disease remains a significant issue, with limited access to comprehensive care and a high prevalence rate. To address this challenge, a team of collaborators from BCH and Bwera Hospital worked to design a study to improve diagnostic capacity and outpatient services for children living with sickle cell disease. The project also focused on providing education to caregivers, healthcare workers, and the community to improve awareness and understanding of the disease.
