Postgraduate Pediatric Curriculum in Rwanda
The Human Resources for Health (HRH) Program, a 7-year capacity strengthening partnership between US academic institutions and the Rwandan Ministry of Health, ended in 2019. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic decreased the ability to provide in-person post graduate teaching. To help bridge this gap, a team of US, UK, and Rwandan pediatricians, many of whom were prior partners through HRH, worked together to adapt a general pediatrics curriculum for resident physicians to a hybrid format and collaboratively developed an Introduction to Public Health module. This Public Health module included topics such as social determinants of health, community needs assessment, and early childhood development. This curriculum was uploaded to an online learning platform and Rwandan faculty trained to facilitate this course in the future.
